 Rakkasah's Spring Caravan 2011 - Belly Dance Fusion Festival

Special day rate includes the classes until 5pm.  The evening classes can be added a the additional rate. 

 A complementary admission to the festival is given to those who sign up for the Saturday or Sunday Classes.  Admission is good for that day only and only to the class participant.

Dalia Carella -Cha Cha Cha Fusion– Dalia will be teaching beautiful foot patterns and arms used in  Latin ballroom dance and percussive Arabic belly dance hip work blended beautifully together to creative a Latin/Arabic Fusion teaching a vocabulary of movement that moves seamlessly into a Choreography time permitting.  Music  by Carlos Santana

Tanna Valentine - Fantastic Veil Fans - Exciting and dramatic, fanveils are quickly becoming a highlight of fantasy and fusion performances. Fanveils are wonderfully versatile as they can illustrate both lyrical melodies and percussive accents. Tanna will teach techniques for successful fan handling, in addition to sharing suggestions for proper care of these delicate props. Students will explore poses and frames, air patterns, traveling, turns and accents. The second half of the workshop will focus on structuring a fanveil performance as students learn a double fanveil choreography. Please bring 2 fanveils to the workshop. A limited number of fanveils will be available for practice. If you’ve been curious about fanveils and want to try before you buy – here is your opportunity!

Ranya Renee - Power Management for the Stage - Physicalized energy work for dancers of all styles, designed to make you more aware of how to send and receive power onstage, whether you are working as a soloist or as a group member. Using gesture, imagery, and Ranya’s signature “Breathwork for Performance” technique, participants will explore how to give and take focus, develop stage presence, and clarify movement and intention. Exercises feature accents, snaky moves, shimmies, turns, arms/hands, and traveling with applied breathwork, expansive vs. contractive movements, using muscle resistance and oppositional stretching techniques, and engaging with different kinds of music and moods. Some prop work will be used in a focus exercise—bring a prop you like to dance with: veil, cape, sword, fan, cane, or whatever inspires you.

Tempest - A Gothic Trilogy - Discover the diversity of expression found within the realm of Gothic Bellydance by exploring style variations via three mini-choreographies. The Gothic subculture is quite expansive, and depending on which branch you chose, it should heavily affect not only your music and costuming, but quality of movement and character portrayal. In this workshop for intermediate through advanced dancers, students will work with Romantic/Neo-Victorian Goth, Industrial/Cyber Goth, and Steampunk concepts through concise choreographies that accentuate both movement and attitude, and also will enable you to create your own choreography. Students will learn what makes each style different.

Na'la - Industrial Strength African Fusion: Finding the Warrior Within! - This class is recommended for students of any style of belly dance who wish to add depth and range to their repertoire, as well as build strength, stamina, and confidence. We will use high energy, fast-paced Industrial music and incorporate dynamic movements from dance styles such as West African, Bhangra, hip hop, modern, and belly dance to weave together a powerful story and choreography that is fun, fast and refreshingly furious! We will also learn how theatrical expression and projection will take your on-stage performance to the next level. Movements and choreography will be dramatic, strong, fun, freeing yet controlled and with a healthy dose of attitude! Be ready to reach in and find the strength in yourself to shine and roar!

Na'la - Non- Stop Tribal Fusion - High energy, non-stop tribal class will get you moving, sweating and zooming along the studio floor. Learn the basics of tribal fusion posture, arm patterns, and classic moves, and enjoy fun and zesty combinations to great electronic and old school beats! We’ll stretch, drill and then “pump up the volume” and DANCE!

Asharah - Shimmies Asharah-Style - Ahh… the shimmy!  No other movement quite captures the essence of bellydance so well as the hip shimmy.  Asharah is a master of the shimmy in many of its forms, from 3/4 shimmies, small vibrations, traveling shimmies, to shimmies with layers.  In this workshop, we’ll break down the technique of each shimmy variation and how to safely execute each.  Asharah will share tips and tricks for keeping your hip shimmies consistent, controlled, and musical.

Tempest - Nouveau Noir Dance - Haunting audiences around the globe, Tempest's area of specialty within the realm of Gothic Bellydance is
"Nouveau Noir" - dance pieces that ref Lect the art and society of the early 1900's, pulling from silent films,
vaudeville-Denishawn styLe, art nouveau, art deco, and the Oriental craze. Students will Learn combinations that capture the elegant form, fluid movement, and dramatic stylings of these eras, while being taught in a format that will enable them to absorb them into their own personal choreographies.

Aepril Schaile - "Dark Raqs Assaya" - A theatrical cane dance with gothic and Victorian sensibilities. Learn a blend of the traditional women’s Egyptian dance with the sharp pops and locks of tribal fusion, smooth ghost-like traveling steps, and a darkly expressive mystique. Please bring a bellydance cane, and have soft soled shoes or slippers (for those with sensitive feet!).

Sarah Skinner - Veil -  Veil dance is one of the most glamorous and visually stunning genres of belly Dance. Its expressive language conveys a wide range of moods – mysterious, romantic, celebratory, spiritual, meditative… Sarah Skinner, creator of “Belly Dance with Veil DVD” and “Seven Veils DVD”, shares her secrets in this workshop. Open-level program teaching the technique of veil dance from the basics of veil manipulation to the nuances of carriage, body lines, and tips for achieving an effortless, flawless performance.  Detailed description of fabric and how to chose the right veil for you will be discussed.  Please bring a 3yard (or longer) veil. Veils will be available for purchase.
